¡Hola!
Which is sweeter: Cookies or the el Libro de Mormón? |
This week was kind of a roller coaster week because we were all
over the place and a lot of things happen. As well, another Valentine’s Day
passed by with my Mama as my Valentine so I don’t have anything to complain
about.
The news of the week is that we were teaching Teresa all week and
she was really excited to get baptized this Saturday. Members were passing by
her house to read the scriptures with her and everything seemed to be perfect.
She was progressing very quickly and she kept telling us how she had received
her answer and knows the Church is true and wants to be a part of it. But, on
Saturday we sent a text confirming our appointment with her that day and she
told us she wasn’t going to be home. So, we tried to pass by her apartment a
few hours later but she responded that she didn’t want anything from the
church. She thought about it, and out of nowhere, made that decision. It was
like a dagger in the heart. Literally, she was one week from her baptism! I’m
not gonna lie. It was pretty tough to receive a rejection like that. We passed
by her apartment later that day to talk to her, but no one was home. Now we
just need to find more investigators!
One of the highlights of the week occurred during a lesson with a
couple we are teaching. We had previously left them with the commitment to
simply read a little bit in the Book of Mormon. The wife loves to read and she
loves the Bible so she ended up reading about 50 pages in the Book of
Mormon. We went to the next lesson to verify her reading and she
ended up telling us the whole story of Nephi and the plates and how obedient he
was when he received the commandment to build a ship. She continued and told us how brave Nephi was
because his older brothers were not obedient. Also, she told us how
important it is to be a great example. As she was telling us everything she’d
read, we were just sitting there with our jaws open wide open! It was a pretty
cool experience.
On Friday, I had to do some baptismal interviews and it was such a
special experience. Hearing other people’s conversion story and their testimony
during baptismal interviews has become one of my favorite parts of being a
missionary. As part of the interview, we always ask them to share their testimony
with us and listening to them always gives my testimony a little boost.

On Sunday, the chapel was rocking! We had more people in
attendance at Sacrament Meeting than at any other time during my mission. The ward had a couple of changes in the
leadership of the ward, which really got people excited. It was just so
satisfying to see all of the youth and their families sitting together! Also,
the referral family that we received last week was able to come to church and
it is so exciting to have a new family, with young kids, in the ward. Going to church
yesterday was the best part of the week because usually we are running around
trying to find teachers or people to take care of the kids but everything
worked out well and we missionaries just sat back and watched everything play
out. It was pretty cool!
Onto the next one!
